Sahara...sigh

Saraha, starring  Matthew McConaughey and  Penélope Cruz, takes us on a wild adventure to find a mysterious metal ship from the American Civil War that has made it all the way to Africa.  Dirk Pitt (McConaughey) is a underwater treasure hunter trying to find said ship.
He runs into Eva Rojas (Cuz), a memeber of W.H.O. (world health org), who is trying to stop a plague from spreading throughout Africa.  Sound like fun?  Do the 2 plots have anything to do with each other? Well they don't.  Even the plot descriptions on www.imdb.com are confusing.,,
1) "Plot Outline: Master explorer Dirk Pitt goes on the adventure of a lifetime of seeking out a lost Civil War battleship known as the "Ship of Death" in the deserts of West Africa while helping a UN doctor being hounded by a ruthless dictator."
2) "An African dictator's nuclear waste disposal plant is mutating the red tide, and so threatens the planet's ecosystem. It's up to Dirk Pitt and his associates from NUMA (National Underwater and Marine Agency) to find the source of the pollution and shut down the operation."
3)" Searching for a treasure on the River Niger, Dirk Pitt thwarts the attempted assassination of a beautiful U.N. scientist investigating a disease that is driving thousands of North Africans to death. The suspected cause of the raging epidemic is vast, unprecedented pollution that threatens to extinguish all life in the world's seas. Racing to save the world from environmental catastrophe, Pitt and his team run a gauntlet between a billionaire French industrialist and a bloodthirsty West African tyrant. In the scorching desert, Pitt uncovers the truth behind his life-long quest - the fate of a Civil War ironclad. Now, amidst the blazing, shifting sands of the Sahara, Dirk Pitt will make a desperate stand -- in a battle the world cannot afford to lose! "
DON'T SEE THIS MOVIE.  YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO GET THE  124 MINUTES BACK.  I'M SERIOUS.  I TRIED!
