My Favorite Software

This is a long post but I have several people ask me what software they should use on various topics. Here's a list of my favorites. Enjoy!

Gadwin PrintScreen
This is a great program for getting screenshots. It’s very flexible.

Launchy
When you have several hundred programs installed on your computer you may not be able to remember them all. Launchy allows you to search for programs on your computer so you don’t have to hunt through the Start Menu to find what you’re looking for.

nMacro Recorder
nMacro allows you to record both keyboard and mouse actions and then save them as standalone executables, which you can run to reproduce recorded actions on same system or on other systems.

WinBar
WinBar is a free and compact program that lets you monitor your system and provides easy access to frequently used controls.

AudioGrabber
Rip music from audio cds to MP3.

MediaMonkey
Music player like iTunes but NOT iTunes.

Audacity
Record anything that comes through your speakers.

Wink
Record and playback anything happening on your screen. Great for showing people how to use a program. Records mouse movement and keystrokes. File can be exported as EXE or Flash.

KeePass
Database for recording all your passwords for whatever you need.

ViceVersa
Compare the contents of 2 folders for differences.

Webmaster Password Generator
Generates passwords for you. VERY easy, safe, and dynamic.

CCLeaner
Cleans up junk files on your computer. Has an uninstall section as well.

Glary Utilities
Like CCleaner but seems to find more stuff.

WinDirStat
View all the contents of your hard drive in a new way. SEE what’s taking up space.

Recuva
Recover deleted files. From the CCleaner people.

FileZilla
FTP client

Notepad++
Notepad but with many more features.

AM-DeadLink
This program will examine all your bookmarks and find duplicates and make sure the sites are still active.

Sumo
Find and download updates for all your installed software.

Folder Size for Windows
Folder Size for Windows adds a new column to the Details view in Windows Explorer. The new column shows not only the size of files, but also the size of folders. It keeps track of which folders you view, and scans them in the background so you can see complete size of all files within the folder.

Karen’s Directory Printer
Karen's Directory Printer can print the name of every file on a drive, along with the file's size, date and time of last modification, and attributes (Read-Only, Hidden, System and Archive)!

Paint.Net
Paint with a hint of Photoshop

Pidgin
Pidgin is a multi-protocol Instant Messaging client that allows you to use all of your IM accounts at once.

Save2pc lite
Save YoutTube vids to your hard drive for later viewing.

Process Explorer
Process Explorer shows you information about which handles and DLLs processes have opened or loaded.

CDBurnerXP
Burn CDs and DVDs, including Blu-Ray and HD-DVDs. It also includes the feature to burn and create ISOs.

Primo PDF
Print to PDF.

JKDefrag
Simple defragmentation.

HTTrack Website Copier
Does what it says. Copies an entire website to your local hard drive for viewing.

Foxit Reader
Foxit Reader is a free PDF document viewer and printer, with incredible small size (only 2.1 M download size), breezing-fast launch speed and rich feature set.

Agent Ransack
Agent Ransack is a tool for finding files and information on your hard drive fast and efficiently. When searching the contents of files Agent Ransack displays the text found so you can quickly browse the results without having to separately open each file!
