Does basketball belong in the Olympics?

Sitting on the couch with my hot wife watching the Olympics and they are interviewing Kobe Bryan...why is there basketball in the Olympics?! Where's the baseball? It just seems very odd that we can send professional athletes who make millions of dollars to spank the planet. So why aren't we doing the same thing with baseball, football, F1 Racing or NASCAR? Am I alone in this?
