Jabber. Ever heard of it?

I have been using meebo.com as my IM recently and they added Google Talk and Jabber. I've read a little about Google Talk but just started reading about Jabber. Jabber looks very promising. Opensource and free you can even run a server. There are some nive code libraries that developers can use with it as well.
